Best Gaius Marius Skills
In this part, we will talk about this elite commander’s skills. Keep it in your mind that he only has 4 skills compared to epic and legendary commanders who have 5 skills. Furthermore, Gaius Marius’ skills aren’t that impactful. Which only makes sense to have him as a gathering commander.
Savior of Italy
Rage Requirement: 1000
Heals some of the slightly wounded units in your army, deals direct damage once to a single target, and reduces target’s march speed for the next 2 seconds.
Healing Factor: 50 / 70 / 90 / 120 / 150
Savior of Italy heals a portion of the injured troops and deals a small amount of damage. Plus, it reduces enemy march speed. Which helps a lot with escaping from the attackers.
Founder of Empire
Increases food gathering speed; increases wood and stone gathering speed.
Bonus Gathering Speed (Food): 3% / 6% / 10% / 15% / 20%
Founder of the Empire simply speeds up the time it takes to gather resources. For food, it is 20% faster. Stone, Wood, and Gold gathering rate has increased by 15%.
Increase the troops load.
Load Bonus: 5% / 10% / 15% / 20% / 30%
A simple, yet effective passive skill that reduces the amount of troops you need to bring resources. This passive skill increases the troop load by 30% which is quite a hefty amount.
Conqueror of Numidia
Increases siege units march speed; increases the ratio of slightly wounded units in overall casualties.
Siege Unit March Speed Bonus: 2% / 4% / 7% / 10% / 15%
Conqueror of Numidia is a very good passive skill that requires you to use siege units with Gaius Marius. Additionally, the ratio of your troops is slightly wounded during the battle which minimizes the amount of resources that you need to heal them. A must-have passive skill.
Best Gaius Marius Talent Trees
Because Gaius Marius is an elite commander and doesn’t come with tons of skills to make him a formidable force. He only makes a good pick for gathering resources early in the game. Therefore, there’s only one talent build that we recommend using for this elite commander.
This talent build is optimized for Gaius Marius. Basically, it increases the speed of gathering, provides additional defense and march speed when using siege units. One of the perks this talent build has to offer is accelerated rage generation which is really nice and provides an additional layer of defense when he comes under attack and you have to recall him.

Best Commander Pairs
On the map, Gaius Marius is extremely vulnerable to potential attackers. So, if you want to prevent your gathering commanders such as Gaius Marius and others (i.e Sarka and Constance) from being attacked by the raiders, you will want to have a strong primary commander to protect the gatherer.
Below is a list of the best starter commanders to pair with Gaius Marius due to their strong abilities and ease of leveling up.
Don’t underestimate Baibars, for the fact that he is fast and packed with serious punches. He is able to deal moderate amounts of direct damage plus slowing down the enemy troops.
If you ever find your gatherers in danger of being attacked, Baibars will provide cushion by slowing down the attackers’ advance. Which gives this pair plenty of time to escape the onslaught to protect your resources.
Joan of Arc
If you are looking for a solid commander to pair with to take advantage of accelerated gathering speed. Joan of Arc is the best pick. She gives a bonus 25% gathering speed on top of Gaius Marius’s 20% food gathering rate and 15% gathering rate for other resources.
She also heals wounded units which helps a lot with protecting your valuable resources and grants buffs to all troops. Joan of Arc is a good pick that enriches your gathering speed while being flexible enough to work with all troops.
Another good commander to pair with is Boudica. She can reduce the enemy target’s rage and deal massive amounts of damage. Plus, she reduces their attack by 25% which helps offset with your casualties when under attacked.
Boudica has one of the best rage generation builder talent trees. Which means Gaius Marius will benefit a lot from her talent build that helps keep the enemy slowed, allowing her to create an escape route easily.
One of the best legendary gathering commanders that is worth pairing with is Cleopatra VII. She is a solid gathering commander with amazing healing abilities. If your gathering commanders ever come under attack, she will protect your troops while securing the resources that you gathered.
All asides that, Cleopatra VII comes with a skill set that greatly increases the rate of gathering and amount of resources that she can bring from a resource point back to your city. A must-have legendary commander if you manage to get her.
If you ever find yourself in need of a solid gathering commander that is capable of dishing out a serious amount of damage, while incapacitating your enemies. Seondeok is totally worth leveling up and pretty much pairs well with any gathering commanders, including Gaius Marius!
Besides, Seondeok comes with a skill set that increases the rate of gathering and resource load. If you pair her with Gaius Marius, you get even greater gathering capabilities that makes it possible to harvest high-level resource points in deep zones.
